Undocumented and Awkward

First dates are always awkward. We don't really know why humans do it. Maybe it's the romanticized versions that poems and novelists have sold us for centuries. We blame "Garden State."

Whatever the reason behind such strange act, we all do it. Straight, gay, trans, bi, I guess we're all looking for that person that can be the perfect mix of a companion, a lover and a friend. But as undocumented immigrants, there are times where we think twice about how we go about revealing our status to the other person.

All of our lives we are constantly told that we should be careful who we tell. Should we tell them on the first date? Second date?

This new episode of Dreamers Adrift was partly based on a DREAMer's bad experience when he told his date that he was undocumented. Bottom line is that if the person you're dating is a total a**hole about your immigration status then, in the wise words of Dan Savage, DTMFA.
