India Currents

India Currents is an important facet of America’s emerging multicultural identity — a monthly publication devoted to the exploration of the heritage and culture of India as it exists in the United States. The magazine covers a wide range of subjects — music, dance, film, literature, travel, recipes, business — and is a household name in Silicon Valley. At the heart of the magazine is a comprehensive calendar of Indian events, used extensively by readers to plan their leisure and entertainment.
India Currents has the largest circulation among Indian publications on the west coast, reaching 32,300 households and 96,000 readers every month and has been in continuous publication since 1987. It is published in two editions — Northern California edition and Southern California/Nationwide edition.
The magazine is known for its sterling editorial content and cross-cultural appeal and has featured several award-winning articles by Indian American journalists over the years. Recently, the magazine has begun cultivating a talented group of citizen journalists to write on subjects that are of local and topical interest.
The premise on which India Currents is founded is simple: that Americans of all backgrounds are interested in learning about other world cultures and that they respond to information that is presented to them in an accessible and attractive manner. In 2004, India Currents was nominated for the Utne Reader’s Independent Press Award for International Coverage.
